We are thrilled to welcome parents and families for a weekend of fun!
At Kalamazoo College we appreciate and value the supporting role that families play in the education of their student. We invite you to enjoy a celebratory and informative weekend at Kalamazoo College. Family Weekend typically occurs at the beginning of November.
Family Weekend 2024 is scheduled for November 8-10, 2024. Throughout the weekend, families are encouraged to explore the Kalamazoo community with their student. An information table is available in the Hicks Student Center Friday morning through Sunday morning with campus and local resources, and registration is not required to attend. Come when you are able, stay as long as you can, and enjoy a lovely fall weekend with your student!

Kalamazoo College observes Honors Day in the fall term of each year, recognizing at convocation those students who have earned honors for the year and those who have won special prizes during the previous academic year. 1-4 p.m. | Witch: A Label and Its Repercussions Rare Book Room Exhibit
Location: Upjohn Library Commons, A.M. Todd Rare Book Room, 3rd floor
“Witch” is a term that shows up throughout pop culture, from books to movies we see examples of witches as old crones or beautiful young women, from scary and harmful to protectors or healers. This exhibit hopes to show some of the history of the label of “witch,” how it has been used to harm during the early modern European witch-hunts and how it was then integrated into literature through works like Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Hansel and Gretel.
1-4 p.m. | Financial Aid Individual Consultation
Location: Mandelle, Financial Aid Office 111
Have questions about your student’s scholarships or need-based aid? Feel free to stop by the Financial Aid Office where Financial Aid staff will be available to answer questions. The Financial Aid Office is down one flight of stairs when entering Mandelle from the Quad side. It is on the main level when entering Mandelle from the Academy Street side.
2-4 p.m. | Center for Civic Engagement Open House
Location: Dewing Hall, Ground Floor (use the east entrance off of Red Square to enter the building), Center for Civic Engagement Community Room
We invite you to stop by the Mary Jane Underwood Stryker Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) and speak to staff and our Civic Engagement Scholars about the vast programs offered for students to engage with the local community. Each year, the CCE partners with over 47 different community organizations and many academic departments and classes to involve over 450 students. Learn from the students themselves how civic engagement helps students find a sense of purpose, gain the ability to “cross borders,” assume program and project leadership roles, and explore pathways to meaningful careers.
4:30-6 p.m. | Hoop House Community Garden Open Hours
Location: Hoop House (located behind the Fitness & Wellness Center)
Stop by our Hoop House community garden to see what’s growing, harvest vegetables, and meet Hoop House student interns. The Hoop House gardens are supported by the Environmental Stewardship Center and Center for Civic Engagement.

6:30-7:30 p.m. | German Lantern Walk
Location: Red Square (located next to Academy Street between Mandelle and Dewing)
It is a fall tradition in Germany for kids to make lanterns and have a “Laternenlauf” or lantern parade. Join us to sing German songs and enjoy seasonal treats. No German knowledge needed. We will provide lanterns for the kids. Sponsored by the German Studies Department.
7:00-9:00 p.m. | Get Smashed!
Location: The Quad
Join Wellness and CARE to smash some pumpkins to vent out frustrations and stress. Learn about healthier choices to de-stress than getting smashed (intoxicated). Bring your old pumpkins to add to our pile! *
*We also want to help the earth! Old Jack O’ Lanterns contribute to food waste and methane. We aim to compost the remains of the Jack O’ Lanterns.
7:30 p.m. | Theatre Production – The Importance of Being Earnest
Location: Mandelle, Olmsted Room
Oscar Wilde’s classic is a delight from the first cucumber sandwich on as Jack’s double life catches up with him. The problems are resolved in an extremely charming and quite unexpected way as Jack and Algernon discover the importance of being earnest while answering to the name of Ernest.
This event is free for all Kalamazoo College students, faculty, staff, and alumni
